Snoring & Sleep Apnea

Is Your Snoring a Symptom of Sleep Apnea?

What is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a relatively common condition that affects your breathing during sleep. Sufferers of sleep apnea periodically stop breathing properly (or sometimes, altogether) during the night, making it a serious and potentially dangerous condition.

While not all snorers have sleep apnea, snoring may be a potential indicator that your airways are partially or completely blocked while you sleep.

Understanding the Condition

  • Headaches in the morning
  • Waking up out of breath or choking
  • Dry mouth/ throat
  • Falling asleep during the day
  • Acid reflux

Get Tested for Sleep Apnea & Snoring

Glenmore Family Dental Centre is pleased to offer sleep apnea testing to our patients. Rather than having your spend the night at a sleep clinic, we will test you from the comfort of your own home with a device. After your night of testing, you return the device to us so we can send the data away for analysis.

Once we receive your results, Dr. Martin will review them with you, discussion what they mean and what implications they may have for your health. At this point, we can talk about your treatment options, and whether you are a candidate for a snoring appliance.

Our Sleep and Snoring Appliances

In many cases, snoring can be treated with an oral appliance that fits snugly over your teeth while you sleep. The splint helps move your tongue and jaws into the ideal position to keep your airways open through the night.

A splint or appliance is simple and less cumbersome than a machine, allowing your to sleep comfortably without the disruption of snoring.

Obviously snoring makes it difficult for your partner to sleep. But did you know that snoring affects your sleep as well? According to the National Sleep Foundation, snoring can result in a relatively shallow, often interrupted sleep, which does not give you the adequate rest you need to function properly during the day.

Snoring and sleep apnea are serious health problems. Take a proactive approach to your health, and get tested for sleep apnea today.
